Schaapskooi

Located next to a national park in Amersfoort, this project was conceived as a annex to the main house, where friends and family can stay. While exploring the surrounding area, we encountered schaapskooi—traditional sheep barns with thatched forms. Some have been adapted into homes or storage, while others remain in use, housing sheep. Their grounded presence and playful character were particularly inspiring. Learning from these forms, the building quietly settles into the garden and blends with the landscape. It aims to become a contemporary schaapskooi—a place where people can gather and celebrate, yet also retreat into peace and quiet.
