Located on the bank of Notori River, the composition of the existing structure is a typical “added-over-time” architecture of a Japanese farm-house. The historical building code limited the building only to be “repaired” and keep the exterior envelope. The new open-floorplan allows for the sound of the river to be heard throughout the house, while setting “scenes” for the inhabitants – corners where they can create small shrines for their hobbies and new ideas.
